News in the Data
Facts, Patterns and Statistical Trends

Released each Monday, this report is intended to help you find facts, insights and trends from the raw player data. This report is all about numbers and finding stats and insights that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Note: This page is fueled by player box score data. Several weeks of history are usually needed to find statistical trends and patterns. As such, after NFL Week #3, this report really starts to kick in with trends.

Entering NFL Week #3...

Quarterbacks:

Anderson, Derek - Last week he threw for 328 yards and 5 touchdowns against the Bengals secondary. For the season Anderson is now averaging 256-yards per game, not bad when you consider he didn't even start week one! If you have roster room, give Anderson a look. As we all know, the Browns have several receiving weapons for Anderson to work with and by far, Anderson targets WR Braylon Edwards the most.

Brady, Tom - Mr. Consistency in 2007. He has thrown for three TDs each week this season. Last year, he "only" reached 3-TDs two times all season. In 2006 he accounted for 53% of the Pats TDs, in 2007 he's been involved in 75% of the team's TDs.

Brees, Drew - has attempt 40+ passes in each of his last 2 games. Still, only one TD all season! In the all-important pass-yards per pass attempt, Brees has only managed 5.9 and 6.9 over the first two weeks this year. For more on YDS/ATT, click here.

Bulger, Marc - like Drew Brees, Bulger has thrown 40+  times in each of his last 2 games. Unlike Brees, Bulger has two TDs to show for his efforts.

Delhomme, Jake - Delhomme has shrewdly passed for 3 TDs in each of his two games in 2007. Worth noting, Jake only reached three TDs once in 2006.

Favre, Brett - Last week against the NYG secondary he looked tremendous (286yds+ 3TDs). As you might guess, Favre continues to focus his throws to Donald Driver. Still, eight different Packers made receptions in week two.

Palmer, Carson - Palmer had some tremendous throws last week against Cleveland and ended up posting 401yds+ 6TDs. Over his last four NFL regular season games, Palmer is averaging 3-TDs per game!

Running Backs:

Addai, Joseph - No RBBC in Indy! Entering Week #3 Addai has posted a string of 2 games in a row with 20+ rushing attempts.  Inside the redzone, the Colts are favoring the pass by a 60-40 ratio at this stage of the 2007 season.

Alexander, Shaun - Last week he managed 18-70 1TD 2rec 5yds. For the season Alexander is averaging 3.88 yards per carry but if not for a few late runs in week two, his average would be much lower.

Barber, Marion - Barber was featured in the redzone in week two as a rusher and receiver. With consistency, he's picked up a TD in each of his last 2 games for Dallas. For the season, Barber is getting about 65% of the Cowboys RB workload in the redzone, Julies Jones has the other 35%.

Benson, Cedric - Last week Chicago played Kansas City, Cedric put up 24-101 0TD 1rec 9yds. Over his last 86 regular season carries, Benson is averaging a respectable 4.1 yards per rush.

Brown, Chris - Examining the last 2 weeks of the season shows he is gaining 6.74 yds/rush. On the down side, so far this year, the Titans are splitting redzone work 2-to-1 in favor of LenDale White over Brown.

Brown, Ronnie - In last week's game against Dallas, Ronnie Brown contributed 11-33 0TD 2rec 36yds for Miami. For the season, so far Brown and Jesse Chatman have split redzone opportunities almost 50-50.

Bush, Reggie - Last game, against Tennessee his numbers were: 10-27 0TD 6rec 43yds. For the season, Bush is averaging 2.95 yards per carry. Teammate Deuce McAlister is averaging 4.35 yards per rush.

Davenport, Najeh - Posting 6.36 yards per crack over the last 2 weeks.

Dayne, Ron - Last week against Carolina in a blowout win, Dayne was 18-44 0TD 1rec 10yds. When the Texans had the game well within hand, they went to Dayne to clean up and rested starter Ahman Green.

Dunn, Warrick - 13-50 1TD 1rec 4yds last week playing against Jacksonville. The Falcons seem to be using Dunn almost exclusively in the redzone so far this year, not great news for Jerious Norwood.

Gore, Frank - Gore is on a streak of 2 games in a row with a TD.

Green, Ahman - Against Carolina last week, his box score read 15-71 1TD. While winning, the Texans seem happy to limit Green's rushing attempts to about 15 per game (16 in week one, 15 in week two).

Henry, Travis - Henry is on a high volume workload. In each of his games as a Bronco, Henry has been given the rock 20+ times.

Jackson, Brandon - His performance last week against New York resulted in 17-35 0TD 4rec 24yds.

Jackson, Steven - Last week St. Louis played San Francisco, Steven ran 21-60 0TD 3rec 36yds. Jackson is only averaging 3.0 yards per carry in 2007. In his last two games in 2006 he averaged over 5.0 yards per rush.

James, Edgerrin - Point blank, 2 games in a row Edgerrin James has found the endzone.

Johnson, Larry - Larry Johnson is coming into week three off a 55-rushing yard and 32-receiving yard performance last week against Chicago. Don't be shocked here. Going into the game against Chicago, 4for4.com predicted 59-rushing yards and 39-receiving yards for LJ in week two.

Johnson, Rudi - The real question is did you have him in your lineup last week? The Cleveland defensive line was clearly out muscled and Rudi ran wild for 151 yds of offense & one touchdown.

Jones, Julius - His production last week against Miami: 15-32 0TD 1rec 24yds.

Jones, Thomas - Last week against Baltimore, he cranked out a modest 24-67 0TD 2rec 20yds.

Jordan, Lamont - Looking back at his last two games, we see he's gaining 5.72 yds/rush.

Lewis, Jamal - Last week he was "Born to Run" and his numbers helped many fantasy owners win the week. He finished up with 215 yds of offense & one touchdown.

Lynch, Marshawn - His performance against Pittsburgh last week amounted to 18-64 0TD 1rec 21yds.

Maroney, Laurence - In New England vs. San Diego last week, he posted 15-77 0TD. Not that bad considering NE seems to favor Sammy Morris on 3rd downs. But, Maroney is still getting more redzone work than Morris with a 60-40 split so far this year.

Mcallister, Deuce - His numbers from last week include 10-49 0TD 1rec 7yds.

Mcgahee, Willis - With several classy performances, he has achieved 100+ yds of total offense in each of his last 2 contests.

Moore, Mewelde - He posted 6-50 0TD 4rec 36yds last week against Detroit. Moore always seems to do something with the ball and is a fan favorite in Minnesota.

Morris, Sammy - He is fresh off a 10-51 1TD effort last week playing against San Diego. Morris is averaging an impressive 5.0 yards per carry this season.

Neal, Lorenzo - in case you missed it, SD looked to Neal on a critical redzone play and he scored and ended the game with 1TD 1rec and 1yd against New England.

Parker, Willie - Last week's performance amounted to 23-126 1TD 2rec 7yds.

Peterson, Adrian - His performance against Detroit last week amounted to 20-66 0TD 4rec 52yds. That's two games in a row with 50+ receiving yards!

Sapp, Cecil - Last week against Oakland, he cranked out 2-6 1TD 2rec 18yds.

Taylor, Fred - He is fresh off a 16-56 0TD 1rec 11yds effort last week playing against Atlanta.

Ward, Derrick - In the GIANTS vs. Green Bay last week, he posted 15-90 0TD 4rec 35yds.

White, Lendale - Last week Tennessee played Indianapolis, White put up 15-64 1TD.

Williams, Deangelo - Last week against Houston: 8-31 0TD 5rec 20yds.

Wynn, Deshawn - Against New York last week, his box score read 10-50 2TD 2rec 18yds.

Young, Selvin - He posted 3-43 0TD 1rec 1yd last week against Oakland. He had one big run to the left of the tackle box and Denver called his number on several key plays late in the game.

Wide Receivers:

Branch, Deion - making up for his goose egg game in week one, Branch's stats last week against Arizona included 7-122yds 0TD.

Bruce, Isaac - His production last week against San Francisco: 8-145yds 0TD.

Burress, Plaxico - Take'em as they come, Burress has racked up a TD in each of his last 2 games for the Giants.

Chambers, Chris - In Miami vs. Dallas last week, he posted 9-109yds 0TD.

Edwards, Braylon - Hope you had him in your starting lineup last week. He went wild against and the Cincinnati defense. He ended up with 2 TDs & 146 yards.

Galloway, Joey - In a clear mismatch against the New Orleans defense last week,  Galloway racked up 2 touchdowns and 135 yards!

Holt, Torry - On a scoring roll, Mr. Holt has picked up a TD in each of his last 2 contests.

Houshmandzadeh, T.j. - He is working on an exemplar 2 games in a row with a TD.

Johnson, Andre - He's gained 120 or more yards in each of his last 2 games!

Johnson, Calvin - He's landed in the endzone in each of his last 2 showings.

Johnson, Chad - He has reached scoring pay-dirt with a TD in each of his last 2 contests.

Moss, Randy - Point blank, 2 games in a row Randy Moss has found the endzone.

Walker, Javon - Walker has racked up 101 or more yards in each of his last 2 efforts.

Welker, Wesley - His stats last week against San Diego include 8-91 yards. Outside of Moss, Brady looks his way often.

Williams, Roy - 2 games in a row scoring a TD.

Tight End:

Clark, Dallas - Last week when Tennessee when to roll coverage, Dallas was able to slap it with a delay route. He ended the day with a solid 7-69 yards & 1TD.

Gates, Antonio - Thanks in part to his sure fisted hands, he has picked up a minimum of 77 receiving yards in each of his last 2 ball games.

Heap, Todd - His numbers from last week include one TD and 76 yards.

Spaeth, Matt - He's scored a touchdown in each of his last 2 games.

Watson, Ben - Watson has a 2 game scoring streak on the line.

Winslow, Kellen - Kellen was very effective against Cincinnati last week. He ran strong delay routes versus deep-dropping undercoverage and picked up one TD and 100 yards.
